MEC Vadi to officially launch the R27 million rehabilitated D1884 Road

Gauteng MEC for Roads and Transport, Ismail Vadi, will on Thursday, 13 December 2018, officially launch the rehabilitated D1884 road at the Goeiehoek CSIR Site Camp, in Sedibeng South of Johannesburg.

The R27 million road project is envisioned to provide the farming communities in the area with improved mobility, increased roadway capacity, reduced travel times, easy access to business and residential areas as well as improved general road safety.

The rehabilitated six kilometers section of the D1884 was identified by the department through their Pavement Management System (PMS).

The Department requested specialised testing to be done on this road project in order to investigate the stabilisation of the in-situ materials using nano-technology.

A detailed testing of the “new” technology was done by the CSIR using Accelerated Pavement Testing (APT) with the Heavy Vehicle Simulator (HVS).

The objective of this specialised testing was to also investigate the cost effective use of “new” nano-technology to build /rehabilitate road infrastructure.
