Matric marking in full swing across the country
The 2018 National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations concluded last week without major incidents, and marking has commenced in earnest in all provinces.
The Director-General (DG) for Basic Education, Mr Mathanzima Mweli has been visiting marking centres across the country, he has so far been to Limpopo, Gauteng, Mpumalanga and KwaZulu-Natal and can report that marking in proceeding well.
“We unfortunately lost a marker in KZN at Pietermaritzburg Girl’s High marking center on Tuesday due to an illness. I visited this center to talk to markers, and the province is providing psychological services and markers are continuing with marking,” Said Mr Mweli.
The DG has also noted that load shading is delaying the capturing of marks in Provincial Education Departments, the DBE and SITA. He will be addressing these concerns with the CEO of ESKOM.
A total of 44 505 markers have been appointed to mark across the 141 marking centres. To ensure that every subject is marked according to a common standardised marking guideline a total of 155 national meetings were hosted at the DBE, where chief markers and internal moderators from all provinces assembled to thrash out the marking guideline and ensure that a common understanding is reached in this regard. It is anticipated that all marking will completed by 15 December 2018.
Thereafter the UMALUSI standardisation process will take place. The Minister will announce the results for the class of 2018 at an event on the 3rd of January 2019 which will be broadcast live on SABC and a number of other broadcasters at 18h00.
