Umalusi welcomes two Council members

Umalusi, the Council for Quality Assurance in General and Further Education and Training, welcomed two of its newly appointed Council members at a Council meeting in Pretoria on Wednesday, 22 February 2017. The Minister of Basic Education, the Honourable Angie Motshekga (MP), recently appointed Advocate Jeremiah Merabe and Mr Duncan Hindle to fill vacant positions in the Umalusi Council.

Both Advocate Merabe and Mr Hindle bring wealth of experience and vast knowledge and expertise to Council having served for many years and on different levels within the education sector. Advocate Merabe is a very experienced lawyer whose area of specialisation is educational law. He holds a B.Iuris, LLB and LLM degrees and he has served as Director: Legal and Auxilliary Services for more than eight years at the Free State Department of Education. He is currently a full-time practicing lawyer at the Johannesburg Bar.

Mr Duncan Hindle is a well-known and respected educationist in South Africa whose impressive work history spans more than 40 years in the public sector, and in particular; the education sector. Among his many portfolios, Mr Hindle served for five years as the Director-General in the Department of Basic Education. He holds a BEd Honours in Sociology and Comparative Education.

In welcoming the two new Council members, the Chairperson of Umalusi Council, Prof John Volmink, remarked that “... given the vast experience of Advocate Merabe and Mr Hindle, they will definitely bring a whole new dimension to the discussions at Council meetings and add significant value by enriching the fiduciary work of Council.”
