Traffic officers nabbed for alleged corruption

Four North West traffic officers were arrested today on allegations of bribery and corruption.

The four officers, employed by the Tlokwe municipality were arrested at their offices in Potchefstroom by members of the National Anti-Corruption Unit which is attached to the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) in collaboration with the Hawks. They are expected to appear at the Potchefstroom magistrate court on Monday.

The arrests follow months of investigation by anti-corruption members. More arrests are expected in efforts to clean the image of the traffic fraternity.

This brings to more than 30 the number of traffic officers arrested since last year on allegations of bribery, fraud and corruption.

Fraud and corruption has been identified as one of the factors contributing to crashes, fatalities and injuries.
