Tourism hosts annual Research Seminar, 17 Mar

Advancing tourism growth and development through research

The Department of Tourism will host its annual Research Seminar under the theme: “Advancing Tourism Growth and Development through Research”.

The Research Seminar is an annual interactive platform for tertiary institutions to share tourism research findings and obtain constructive feedback from industry stakeholders.

The following six research topics will be presented:

  • Tourism value chain and opportunities for transformation in South Africa;
  • Interventions and incentives needed to improve the number of enterprises, including state-owned tourism attractions, that embrace responsible tourism management practices;
  • Development of framework to assess the economic impact of coastal and marine tourism in South Africa;
  • The governance and coordination involved in marine and coastal tourism: challenges and opportunities;
  • The potential of the creative industry for destination development in South Africa: film tourism as a case study; and
  • Destination development through understanding tourists’ expectations and memorable tourist experiences at major tourist attractions.
