South African Police Service destroys illegal firearms, 9 Jul

The South African Police Service (SAPS) is continuing its fight against illegal arms and ammunition to ensure that South Africa becomes a safe and crime free country.

We recognise that the proliferation of illegal arms and ammunition, if not defeated, will pose a great danger to innocent citizens and the image of the country as these arms and ammunition are used to commit serious and violent crimes.

The total number of firearms to be destroyed is 14 382. The SAPS National Commissioner, General Riah Phiyega cordially invites the media to the destruction of Illegal, Lost and Unwanted Firearms.

Firearms from all nine provinces will be destroyed as follows :-
