Gauteng Legislature hosts public hearing on service delivery in Sedibeng, 2 to 3 Dec

Gauteng Legislature’s Standing Committee on petitions convenes public hearing to facilitate engagements on service delivery issues in Sedibeng region

Led by the Chairperson, Honourable Refilwe Mogale, the Gauteng Provincial Legislature’s (GPL) Standing Committee on Petitions will convene a two-day public hearing with the aim of resolving service delivery concerns raised by various communities in the Sedibeng region and surrounding areas through petitions.

These concerns often come to the Legislature as submissions, petitions or requests addressed to the Petitions Standing Committee by individuals or representatives of communities.

The Committee convenes quarterly public hearings across the various regions of Gauteng to ensure all communities are assisted and their petitions are resolved. Over the two days, the Committee will focus on resolving the followings petitions: Lack of Health Services: Lesedi;  Formalization of IQ 548: Quaggafontein; Billing: Vereeniging; Request for Tarred Street & Storm water Drainage: Sebokeng Ext 2,3 & 6; Lack of Service Delivery: Sebokeng; Development: Qwelang; Mismanagement of funds: Toekomsrum; Incomplete RDP House: Krugersdorp; Relocation of Informal Settlement: Soul City; RDP House: Kagiso; RDP House (Mashinini); Housing Development: Sebokeng Ext 24; Incomplete Housing Project: Sedibeng; RDP House: Evaton West; Outstanding Housing Protects: Boipatong.

The 2-day Petitions Public Hearing is scheduled to take place as follows:

Date: Friday 2nd – Saturday 3rd December 2016
Time: 16h00 on Friday and 9h00 on Saturday
Venue: Sebokeng Zone 14 - Sol Tsotetsi Multipurpose Centre

The Standing Committee will receive status on progress from the relevant authorities responsible for service delivery issues raised by members of the community. The Gauteng Departments on Health; Agriculture; and Human Settlements will respond on provincial service delivery issues, while the Municipalities of Emfuleni; and Randfontein will respond on local service delivery concerns.

Citizens of Sedibeng and surrounding areas have been invited and are also encouraged to submit petitions/grievances/complaints during the hearing.

Members of the media are also invited to attend and urged to confirm attendance.
