Road Traffic Management Corporation on Tshwane Metro traffic officer to be sentenced for corruption

A Tshwane Metro traffic officer is expected to be sentenced when she appears at the Cullinan magistrate court tomorrow (Wednesday March 29).

The officer, Ms Sebo Mathabatha (38), was convicted in terms of the Prevention and Combating of Corrupt Activities Act, when she appeared on February 1st 2017.

She was arrested on Moloto Road in December 2015 while conducting law enforcement operation. She stopped an agent of the National Traffic Anti-Corruption Unit during the festive season road safety campaign and demanded a R100 bribe.

She was immediately arrested and charged. Mathabatha pleaded guilty to the charge of corruption in February and was convicted.

The court is expected to hear evidence on aggravating factors and mitigation tomorrow. She is currently on bail and has since resigned from the Tshwane Metro Police department.
