President Jacob Zuma extends condolences on passing of Rev Bonganjalo Goba

President Jacob Zuma has expressed deep sadness and extended his condolences on the passing of one of South Africa’s internationally acclaimed clergymen, Reverend Professor Bonganjalo Goba of United Congregational Church of Southern Africa (UCCSA).

Reverend Professor Goba will be remembered, amongst others, for his contribution in the higher education sector during the struggle against apartheid as one of the signatories of the historical “Kairos Document”, a historical theological document that declared apartheid as a heresy and provided a counter to and convincing theological argument against apartheid theology.

The former UCCSA Chairperson also served as Vice-Chancellor of the Durban University of Technology and has taught theology both in South Africa and in the United States of America where he resided for many years as a self-exiled anti-apartheid activist.

“We wish to convey our heartfelt condolences to the Goba family and the UCCSA on the loss of this patriot and clergyman who contributed immensely to building a better South Africa. May his soul rest in eternal peace,” said President Zuma.
