Guests of honour, the community of Gauteng participating in Walk the Talk
Good morning!

On behalf of all South African Police Service (SAPS) officials present today, I would like to extend our sincere appreciation to 702, as part of Primedia, for inviting us to be part of this prestigious event, the 2015 Walk the Talk.

Although the SAPS is usually in attendance at this annual walk to contribute towards safety and security, this year you will find Marks Park awash with the colour blue.

Our Air Wing has just made their presence known, and you will soon see 200 of our trainees from the SAPS Tshwane Academy, who have formed a guard of honour to wish you well on your 8 km journey. They too have just started their journey, being two-years of training to become protectors of the peace and of the vulnerable. I am sure that your enthusiasm and joie de vivre will motivate them to work even harder over the next few years!

At the power zone, you will find the police band, which will undoubtedly put a spring in your step as you start picking up the pace.  Please pause for just a moment to have a quick look at our display of different police vehicles and to say “hello” to some of our members who have worked hard to make this day as enjoyable as possible.

Our biggest thanks must go out to the people of Jozi, and some from further afield, who – in their thousands - have pledged their commitment to supporting the fight against crime by choosing to support the 8km walk.

Today the 8km is dedicated to the crime-fighting partnership between the Primedia Group and the SAPS in the form of Crime Line, which celebrated its 8th anniversary just over a month ago. With 25 000 entrants to this race alone, we are assured that over the next few weeks we will get 25 000 tip-offs on crime and criminal activity around Gauteng because “someone, somewhere knows something about crime” and we need you to share that information with us.

Please enjoy your walk and your day, which is dedicated towards community camaraderie, family, health, fitness, charity and preventing and combating crime through the sharing of information.

It gives me great pleasure to announce that, directly after the National Anthem and the firing of the starter-gun, this 8 kilometre walk will officially start.
