Public Service and Administration hosts National Africa Public Service Day in Irene, 23 Jun

Africa Public Service Day to focus on partnering with youth for Africa’s transformation

The Department of Public Service and Administration will host the national Africa Public Service Day (APSD) celebrations at St George Hotel, in Irene on Friday, 23 June 2017.

The celebrations will be held under the continental theme: “entrenching a citizen-centred service delivery culture; partnering with the youth for Africa’s transformation”,

The theme is in line with the African Union’s 2063 Agenda whose desire is for Africans to have a continent that puts its citizens at the centre of all programmes and projects and the decision of the AU’s Heads of States declaring 2017 as the year of ‘harnessing the demographic dividend through investment in youth.’

The local APSD is more significant as it coincide with the Youth Month, which is commemorated in June, and provide South Africans with an opportunity to take stock of the strides made in addressing issues facing the youth.

The celebrations will take a form of roundtable discussions where public servants, public service institutions, academia, students in the field of Public Administration and Good Governance, civil society organisations and citizens in South Africa will share a platform to discuss issues pertaining to “partnering with the youth to build a responsive and sustainable Public Service; leveraging Information and Communication Technology skills for quality service delivery as well as nurturing a culture of professionalism and ethical values in Africa’s Public Service.”

The event will provide an opportunity to succinctly pin- point some of the challenges impeding the public services to satisfy citizens’ expectations and propose sustainable solutions in contribution broadly towards creating a “better South Africa and, a better Africa and a better world.”

The continental commemoration will be held in Kigali, Rwanda from Wednesday, June 21- June 23, 2017.

Different government departments will on Friday, showcase their services, good practices and innovation through exhibitions at the event.
