Free State Sport hosts 2017 Provincial Disability Games in Mangaung, 11 Mar

The Free State Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation will host the 2017 Provincial Disability Games in line with its objective of utilizing sport as a vehicle to foster social cohesion in our communities.

Participants for these games are selected from all districts in the province including the metro. Each district and the metro will send a contingent of male and female players to participate in sport codes such as Deaf Netball, Football, Goal ball, Morabaraba, Jukskei, and many others.

The event will take place as follows:

Date: 11 March 2017
Time: 7h00 – 15h00
Venue: Mangaung Outdoor Sport Centre, Bloemfontein

Please note that all teams will take part in the 5KM walk scheduled to start at 7h00 from Shell filling station, Moshoeshoe Road to Mangaung Outdoor Centre. All the participating teams and technical officials will also receive medals which will be awarded by the MEC, HOD and other dignitaries present. Each team will further receive equipment as per its code.

Commenting about the staging of the 2017 Provincial Disability Games, the Free State MEC for Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation Me Mathabo Leeto said, “One of the mandates we derive from the National Development Plan (NDP) as the department relates to using sport and recreation to promote social cohesion.

It is no wonder therefore; that the department continues to consistently support initiatives such as disability games and other developmental programmes to nurture young talent. Such initiatives provide Free State youngsters an opportunity to showcase the talent that they have and to hone their skills”.
