President Jacob Zuma will tomorrow, 15 August 2017, officially open the 2017 Governors’ Symposium of the Association of African Central Banks (AACB) at the South African Reserve Bank in Pretoria.
The Symposium will be held under the theme “Monetary Integration Prospects in Africa” and will be attended by Governors from African Central Banks, representatives of African regional bodies and international institutions.
The AACB was established on 25 May 1963 at the Summit Conference of African Heads of State and Governments held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The main objective of the AACB is, inter alia, to promote cooperation in the monetary, banking and financial spheres in the interests of maintaining price and financial stability in Africa.
The symposium will provide an excellent opportunity for the exchange of ideas around the role that central banks can play to address deficiencies and constraints so as to enhance growth in the different African regions.
Central Banks have an important role to play in promoting inter-continental trade, linking the payments systems across the continent, developing a well-functioning and efficient banking system, promoting cross-border banking and capital flows.
The Governors' Symposium will also discuss Monetary integration; coordination and merging Monetary and non-Monetary Blocks in Africa for Monetary integration; Banking and Financial Reforms in the Post Financial Crisis Era and Sharing experiences in Monetary integration Prospects in African Sub-regions.
