President Jacob Zuma launches War on Leaks programme, 28 Aug

President Jacob Zuma will on Friday, 28 August 2015, launch government’s War on Leaks programme which is designed to train 15 000 young people to curb water losses that are costing the country R7 billion a year.

The President announced in the State of the Nation Address (SoNA) that government would train 15 000 artisans or plumbers who will fix leaking taps in their communities. Rand Water is the implementing agent on behalf of the Department of Water and Sanitation.

The plan is to recruit and train a total of 15 000 artisans, plumbers and water agents over a period of three years. They will be trained in three phases; phase one - 3 000 in 2015/16, phase two 5 000 in 2016/17 and phase three 7 000 in 2017/18.
