President Jacob Zuma appoints Judge Mthiyane to chair Remuneration Commission

President Jacob Zuma has appointed retired Judge Khayelihle Kenneth Mthiyane as Chairperson of the Commission of Inquiry into the remuneration and conditions of service in the public service and public entities listed in Schedule 3A and 3C of the Public Finance Management Act (Act no 29 of 1999).
 
The President appointed the Commission in August 2013 and had first announced it in the State of the Nation Address of February 2013.
 
The Commission was established to investigate the remuneration and conditions of service in the public service and public entities listed in Schedule 3A and 3C of the Public Finance Management Act, with the remuneration of educators receiving priority attention. The Commission is also mandated to investigate matters relating to organizational development, job evaluating and grading, recruitment, appointment and promotion, human resource planning and performance management systems, policies and practices in the public service.
 
Judge Mthiyane will fill the vacancy that arose when former Chief Justice Sandile Ngcobo requested to be relieved from duty as Chairperson of the Commission.
 
President Zuma has wished Judge Mthiyane well in the execution of his new responsibilities.
