Premier Supra Mahumapelo extends condolences on passing of Raymond Phiri

Ray “Chikapa” Phiri’s death a great loss – Mahumapelo

Premier Supra Mahumapelo of the North West Province joins millions of South Africans in mourning the death of 70yr old music legend, Raymond Phiri, who passed on earlier today.

Mahumapelo says Phiri’s death came at a time when there was an agreement between him and the North West Provincial Government to assist the province in revitalising the Mmabana studios.

“I was also working with the legendary musician, as an artist myself, on a Reconciliation, Healing and Renewal (RHR) music concert in honour of the late Collins Chabane”, said Premier Mahumapelo adding that he also had an agreement with the late Phiri to compose the gospel version of one of Ray Phiri’s famous songs - Zwakala (Come to me), the project which is already 70 percent completed.

“This is truly a great loss to the music industry. I wish to, on behalf of the provincial government and the North West community, extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Mr Phiri. We will forever remember him and be grateful for his immense contribution in the music industry. May his soul rest in peace”, Premier Mahumapelo said.
