Premier Supra Mahumapelo congratulates newly crowned Miss South Africa

Premier of the North West Province Supra Mahumapelo has extended his congratulatory message to the 21-year-old Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters from Sedgefield in the Western Cape for having scooped the Miss South Africa 2017 title last night, Sunday 26 March. The annual prestigious beauty pageant event was held at Sun City near Ledig village in the North West Province.

In congratulating Nel-Peters and her two runners-up, Ade van Heerden (1st Princess), also from the Western Cape and Boipelo Mabe (2nd Princess) from Alexandra township in Gauteng, Premier Mahumapelo said the trio’s winnings demonstrate their matured ability to pay attention, persevere and think of the future.

Premier Mahumapelo also congratulated Sun City for having successfully hosted one of the richest beauty pageant competition in the world, saying this will go a long way in putting the North West Province in the world map.

“As we are working towards attaining the vision to rebrand, reposition and renewal of our province, hosting events of this magnitude will not only boost our local tourism economy, but will serve as a distinct proof to the country and the world that the North West Province has the capacity and requisite expertise to host national and international events”, said Premier Mahumapelo adding that the recent hosting of the South African Film and Television Awards (SAFTA) and the scheduled hosting of the 23rd edition of the South African Music Awards in the North West Province present a great opportunity for the province to attain its set economic development goals through the prioritisation of culture as one of the province’s concretes.

“While we urge our local entrepreneurs to always take advantage of events of this extent given their potential to contribute positively towards the growth of the local economy, we also encourage the youth of our province to participate in culture and arts opportunities presented before them, which will in medium to long term period result in their talents and dynamisms being unleashed and hugely rewarded.
