North West Legislature conducts public hearings on Mineral and Petroleum Resources Development Amendment Bill 2013 and Division of Revenue Bill 2017, 20 Apr

On Thursday, 20 April 2017, the North West Provincial Legislature’s Portfolio Committee on Tourism, Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment will be conducting public hearings on the Mineral and Petroleum Resources Development Amendment Bill 2013 at Gathulo Community Hall in Kraaipan; Khuma Community Hall; Ipelegeng Community Hall in Schweizer-Reneke and Rustenburg Civic Centre at 10h00.

Mineral and Petroleum Resources Development Amendment Bill 2013 aims to amend the Mineral and Petroleum Resources Development Act, 2002, as amended by the Mineral and Petroleum Resources Development Act, 2008 (Act No.49 of 2008); so as to remove ambiguities that exist within the Act; to provide for the regulation of associated minerals, partitioning of rights and enhance provisions relating to the regulation of the mining industry through beneficiation of minerals or mineral products; to promote national energy security; to streamline administrative processes; to align the Mineral and Petroleum Resources Development Act with the Geoscience Act, 1993 (Act No. 100 of 1993), as amended by the Geoscience Amendment Act, 2010 (Act No. 16 of 2010); to provide for enhanced sanctions; to improve the regulatory system; and to provide for matters connected therewith.

On Friday, 21 April 2017, the Portfolio Committee on Premier, Finance, Economy and Enterprise Development will be conducting public hearings on Division of Revenue 2017 at Letsopa Community Hall in Ottosdal; Mokati Community Hall, Kanana; Tlou le Tau Tribal Hall in Ganyesa and Moretele Municipal Hall in Moretele at 10h00.

The Division of Revenue Bill 2017 aims to provide for the equitable share division of revenue raised nationally among the national, provincial and local spheres of government for the 2017/2018 financial year, the determination of each province’s equitable share and allocations to provinces, local government and municipalities from national government’s equitable share and the responsibilities of all three spheres pursuant to such division and allocations; and to provide for matters connected therewith.
