A National Imbizo Focus Week will be held from 30 November to 6 December 2015. The focus week is set to coincide with the Parliamentary Constituency Week and it will also fall within the dedicated 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children period.
The Imbizo Focus Week will be guided by the theme: “Together we move South Africa forward”. This is a rallying theme promoting partnership and galvanising active citizenry. Political principals from all three spheres of government will be interacting closely with communities in different parts of the country
It is an opportunity for them to update the public on programmes being implemented to ignite economic growth and create jobs such as the Nine-Point Plan. President Jacob Zuma unveiled the plan in his 2015 State of the Nation Address and recently updated South Africans on progress made to improve the country’s prospects. The plan targets the key constraints in the economy, many of which have been heightened by the prolonged global economic turbulence, labour disputes and the electricity challenge.
The plan, which supports the National Development Plan, consists of the following:
- Resolving the energy challenge;
- Revitalising the Agriculture and the agro-processing value chain;
- Advancing beneficiation and adding value to our mineral wealth;
- More effective implementation of a higher-impact Industrial Policy Action Plan;
- Encouraging private sector investment;
- Moderating workplace conflict;
- Unlocking the potential of SMMEs, co-ops, township and rural enterprises;
- State reform, including boosting the role of state owned companies in broadband, water, sanitation and transport infrastructure and,
- Growing the ocean economy and tourism through Operation Phakisa.
