The Deputy Minister of Justice and Correctional Services, Hon. Thabang Makwetla, will on Thursday, 30 March 2017 be opening a Pharmacy in Mthatha Correctional Centre.
The pharmacy is set to transform the ability of health officials in the Mthatha Management Area to provide medication to more than 4000 inmates in correctional centres in Mthatha and its surrounding areas, such as, Bizana, Elliotdale, Lusikisiki, Nqgeleni, Flagstaff, Mqanduli, Tabankulu, Mount Frere, Mount Ayliff, and Mount Fletcher.
Fully equitable with the requirements of the South African Pharmacy Council, as well as Good Pharmacy Practice, this pharmacy is an exemplary product of a public-private partnership made possible by DCS and TB/HIV Care.
This Correctional Services based pharmacy will improve service delivery, enhance access to chronic medicines, raise the quality of care for offenders and optimise scarce resources.
