The Global Entrepreneurship Congress, which officially opens on Tuesday (14 March) at Sandton Convention Centre, has competitive pitching sessions on the exhibition floor, for entrepreneurs to present their business cases to delegates and investors. In the lead-up to GEC, various pitching competitions have been held in South Africa.

The final lead-up competition and Masterclass for South African GEC Partners’ pitchers takes place on Monday (13 March), from where the winners will proceed to the international pitching at the Global Entrepreneurship Congress on Tuesday, 14 March at Sandton Convention Centre.

The 45 pitchers on 13 March are coming from the development pipelines of a variety of South African GEC Partners, while the audience of 300 is aimed at entrepreneurs wanting to learn how to pitch, supporters wanting to vote for their favourite pitches, or GEC delegates and investors who seek to get a view of promising start-ups in the country.

The forty-five pitchers at Vodacom on 13 March, are competing for 25 spaces at the GEC on 14 March.

Twenty-two winners will be selected by judges, 3 winners will be “wild-cards”, selected by audience online voting through a live website, and will also receive small prizes on the day.

The pitching pace is expected to be fast, with only 3 minutes each, plus 2 minutes questions and answers.
