Minister Michael Masutha helps clean schools in Vuwani, 19 Jan

Minister Masutha offers a helping hand in cleaning of schools in Vuwani

The media is invited to join the Minister of Justice and Correctional Services, Adv. Michael Masutha on Thursday 19 January 2017 as parolees and probationers will embark on a clean-up campaign of three (3) schools in Vuwani. Through the ex-offender labour programme, Correctional Services will provide physical labour and other technical support work as the Department of Basic Education is dealing with the aftermath of the 2016 protest action.

The destruction of school infrastructure during the protest action left many schools vandalised and this directly undermined government’s efforts to improve the quality of education.  Parolees who received training on different skills as part of their rehabilitation programmes will play an active role beyond just cleaning and cultivating school gardens, but will be involved in the renovations, painting and other technical construction work in an effort to restore the dignity of learners in Vuwani.

This initiative forms part of a nation-wide programme in the rehabilitation of inmates through offender labour whereby offenders are given an opportunity to correct their wrong doing by giving back to communities, and in turn, contribute to the realisation of the National Development Plan.

Schools to be visited by Minister Masutha are Vhafamadi Secondary School, Frank Makhaswakule Secondary School and Vhudzani Secondary School.

Media is invited as follows:
