Minister Faith Muthambi visits Namibia as part of digital migration process, 24 Jun

The Minister of Communications, Faith Muthambi, will on Wednesday 24th June 2015, visit Namibia to meet her counterpart, Minister of Information Communications & Technology, Tjekero Tweya.

The purpose of the visit is to discuss, among other matters, strategies to mitigate against potential cross-border frequency spectrum interference post the Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) migration deadline which was the 17th June 2015, as set by the International Telecommunications Union. The Minister has also consulted her counterparts in Botswana, Lesotho, Swaziland and Mozambique on this issue.

Minister Muthambi will be accompanied by technical experts from SENTECH (Transmitter Network Management) and ICASA (Spectrum Management). The Frequencies Geographical Coordinates and Output Transmitter Powers will be analysed to assess possible signal interference output.

The Minister will conclude her visits to neighbouring countries with a meeting in Zimbabwe, on a yet-to-be announced date. The minister will then join the SADC Communications, ICT and Postal Ministers meeting from the 25th to 26th June 2015 in Walvis Bay, Namibia.
