Minister Dipuo Peters on Shosholoza Meyl train delay in De-Aar-Northern Cape

The Minister of Transport, Ms Dipuo Peters, apologises to the passengers, their families and friends, who are on board the Shosholoza Meyl train which is delayed at De Aar in the Northern Cape province. The Train is from Johannesburg destined for Cape Town.

The delay is caused by an overhead electrical failure and Eskom has since been hard at work to restore electrical power to the affected railway line.

To ensure safety and comfort of passengers, the Passenger Rail Agency South Africa (Prasa) is providing food, drinks, water and emergency services to all passengers who are affected by the extreme heat wave in the Karoo.

Minister Peters thanks Prasa, the Shosholoza Meyl staff and Eskom for their swift response in dealing with the situation.
