In memoriam: Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati

President Jacob Zuma has declared a Special Official Funeral for the late struggle stalwart Ms Ruth Mompati.

Comrade Ruth Mompati was born in a small village of Tlapeng not far from Vryburg, on 14 September 1925. Mme Ruth Segomotsi Mompati passed on in the early hours of Tuesday, 12 May 2015 at a Military Hospital in Cape Town. Mme Ruth Segomotsi Mompati was one of that special generation, a towering cadre whose life and conduct remained true to the values of our movement, the ANC until her last day.

Funeral

The Special Official Funeral of the veteran and icon of the liberation struggle, Mme Ruth Mompati will take place on the 23rd of May 2015 at the Vryburg Showgrounds, Vryburg, North West.

The service will commence at 09h00am. His Excellency President Jacob Zuma will deliver a eulogy.

All National Flags at all flag stations in the country will be flown at half-mast from 13 May 2015 until the day of the funeral.

Media accreditation

Members of the media are advised to register for accreditation on the GCIS website. The accreditation closes at 10h00 on Friday, 22 May. Media will be notified of the collection point for the accreditation in due course.

Public mobilisation

Members of the public will be transported in and around the North West province to pay their final respects to Mama Ruth Mompati. Pick up points for mourners will be announced at a later stage by the North West province.
