MEC Bongiwe Sithole-Moloi on Maskandi artists' feud

MEC Sithole-Moloi Intervenes in Maskandi artists' feud

KwaZulu-Natal Arts and Culture MEC Bongiwe Sithole-Moloi has called on artists to utilize their music to promote peace and tolerance amongst communities. She made the request after meeting with Khuzani "iNdlamlenze" Mpungose and Mthandeni "iGcokama Elisha" Manqele in Dundee yesterday, 21 June 2017 to resolve their feud. The musicians’ rivalry has led to a break out of violence between their fans which spilled over into maskandi festivals.

During the meeting both artists agreed to no longer use sarcastic and defamatory content in their songs. The MEC reminded them that it was their duty, as well as their fellow artists, to ensure that the Maskandi genre is respected.

"We were even reluctant to book these artists at the same event as we feared there would be bloodshed when their fans gathered in one place. We do not condone violence, artists should have healthy competition and not put the lives of their fans at risk," said Sithole-Moloi.
