MEC Ishmael Kgetjepe wishes teachers a happy World Teachers Day

Best wishes to all the teachers- MEC Kgetjepe

The MEC for Education Ishmael Kgetjepe wishes all the teachers a happy World Teachers Day. The 5th October was declared the Teachers Day by the UNESCO since 1994. This was done as part of appreciating developmental role played by this noble profession in the world.

Awareness campaigns continue to mark the day with the aim of creating better understanding of the profession. Over 100 countries observe World Teachers’ Day. This support is also facilitated by the Education International (EI), a global union federation which represents education professionals worldwide.

Limpopo has over 50 000 educators. These are men and women who are dedicated to bring development in the Province. Their efforts will continue to be recognised during the World Teachers’ Day celebrations and beyond. Their good work cannot pass unnoticed.

Teachers are the carriers of prosperity in any nation. Teaching is the mother of all the professions as it is through teaching that the province and the country as a whole continue to produce doctors, lawyers, engineers, pastors and other professions. The goals of the National Development Plan 2030 and Limpopo Development plan cannot be realised without education.

On behalf of the department, MEC Kgetjepe also thanks teachers for the good work they are doing in preparing for the 2016 final examinations. Limpopo Province is ready for grade 12 examinations to commence on the 24th October 2016. The department continues to monitor performance at the poor performing schools as part of giving learners maximum support when they approach the examinations. This cannot be possible without dedicated team of educators. The MEC also makes a call to all education social partners to support education activities at all the times as education is a societal matter.
