North West Local Government on Lehurutshe water interventions

Water interventions continues in Lehurutshe and surrounding villages

Work to drill boreholes and fix malfunctioning water engines is continuing to resolve water shortage in the drought-stricken Gopane and Dinokana villages in Ramotshere Moiloa local municipality. This emerged at a recent community engagement session with MEC for Local Government and Human Settlements, Galaletsang Gaolaolwe and officials of local water authority - Sedibeng Water.

The resident of the two villages have previously engaged in a protest march to voice out their dissatisfaction with water tankering services, indicating that the arrangement which was initially supposed to be a short term intervention, has not been beneficial.

When addressing Sedibeng Water officials and ward councillors, MEC Gaolaolwe said: “the solution to the water crisis is not simple and need all stakeholders to work with government to find a lasting solution. “The water crisis is only going to end when we all work together as communities and NGOs. Only through deep commitment and collaboration will we be able to solve water crisis’’, she said.

Matshidiso Dikoko from Sedibeng Water promised to Kgosi Kereditse Gopane and Kgosi Kebusitse Moilwa that all malfunctioning boreholes will be attended to. “Boreholes that are not functioning will be fixed. Work to drill six boreholes in Dinokana is almost complete.

We will deploy technical teams to assess systems in the problem areas and attend to them urgently to restore the water supplies” remarked Dikoko.
