KwaZulu-Natal hosts Provincial Executive Council Lekgotla, 16 to 18 Feb

The continuing journey of building a stronger province will move into top gear when KwaZulu-Natal Premier Willies Mchunu and members of the executive council converge in Durban for a three-day Provincial Executive Council Lekgotla.

Mchunu has invited heads of departments, CEOs of public entities, mayors and senior government officials to be part of this meeting that will conduct a mid-term review of the performance of government and plan concrete programmes for the two years ahead.

Mchunu stated: “This Lekgotla will reflect on the work of government since we started this term of office in 2014.

Ahead of the national general elections in 2014, we visited many parts of the province - rural and urban - and interacted with many citizens who finally voted overwhelmingly for a Better life for all. With the highest voter turnout of 75, 98 percent, the people of KwaZulu-Natal Province demonstrated that they respected and understood all the processes of a democratic country.”

“They firmly believed that voting in a democratic election was one of the most crucial measures of a vibrant democracy.

The fundamental question is what have we done, both as elected public representatives and civil servants, for the people who voted in 2014? I am interested to know what role has each one of us played in ensuring that this democratic government makes an impact in changing people’s lives. Over the next three days, we will have an honest and open discussion around these matters.”

“Importantly, this Lekgotla will set the tone for the State of the Province scheduled to take place on the 1st March 2017 at the Royal Showgrounds. After this Lekgotla, we will be inviting members of the public to make an input into the State of the Province Address. We want each citizen of this province to tell me as an elected representative what they want me to do in order to create a prosperous KZN."

Members of the media are invited to attend the opening session of this Lekgotla scheduled to take on the 15th February at the Public Works Conference Centre 455A, King Cetshwayo Highway, Mayville, Durban commencing at 8h00.
