Gauteng Provincial Government on Infrastructure Investment Conference

Infrastructure Investment lifeblood of Gauteng’s economic transformation agenda

The Gauteng Infrastructure Investment Conference kicked off on a high note as delegates which included policy makers, fund and investment managers, private equity firms, development funding institutions and ICT specialists converged at Gallagher Convention Centre to reflect on the progress made in the implementation of the Gauteng Infrastructure Master Plan.

The two-day conference held under the theme: “Driving investment for inclusive growth and sustainability”, will provide detailed progress on the transformative partnerships created over the three years as part of realising the provincial government’s vision of transformation, modernising and reindustrialising the Gauteng City Region.

“Almost two years ago, at this very venue, as various stakeholders in the economy of the Gauteng City Region, we met together to begin a journey where we sought to mobilise support and develop a common approach on the infrastructure requirements of our province.
“Our focus on infrastructure in our province, our country and the continent is in line with our understanding that infrastructure development is the life blood of our social and economic transformation agenda and the backbone of a thriving, modern economy.

“We expect our infrastructure investment to contribute about R55 billion into the Gauteng economy, create 190 000 direct jobs and 140 indirect and induced jobs, contribute R12.4 billion to the fiscal over four years and add about R31 billion to household income, an estimated R5.4 billion of which will go to lower income households,” said Premier Makhura.

The conference will also respond to the alternative funding mechanisms that can be used for Gauteng’s infrastructure development, plans for spatial transformation and building inclusive cities, building confidence in the investor community and plans in regards to Africa’s industrialisation and re-industrialisation.

MEC Lebogang Maile added that the conference will mobilise more resources across the private and public sector to enhance  the social  wellbeing  of Gauteng  residents and expand economic opportunities  to all by pooling together  to invest  in the economy through building strategic and catalytic economic and industrial infrastructure.
The conference is currently underway at Gallagher Convention Centre, Midrand Johannesburg.
