Minister Faith Muthambi on government’s Imbizo programme

Minister Muthambi harnesses government’s Imbizo Programme to effect positive change in the lives of families in Lephalale, Limpopo

The lives of three families living in Lephalale, Limpopo changed for the better this weekend, following the intervention of Minister Faith Muthambi who was in the area  for an oversight visit.

The families were living in shacks but have now received fully furnished houses. One of the beneficiaries is Moshidi Madibana, a 52-year-old mother  and grandmother. Madibana was living in a leaking and cold one-roomed shack with her 14 children and grandchildren.

Minister Muthambi was shocked by the living conditions of these families when she first visited the area in November last year, to officially open the National Imbizo Focus Week.

She vowed to do whatever she could to change their lives, and brought their plight to the attention of other relevant government departments. “Our government is deeply committed to fighting the scourge of poverty, inequality and unemployment”, said Muthambi.

“We know that good quality housing improves the lives and health of people. Children who live in a decent house are less prone to falling sick, their confidence is higher and they perform better at school. A good house is the start they need to achieve great things in life. As government, what we wanted to do for these families is to not change their lives for this weekend only, but to change their lives sustainably and for the long-term,” she added.

The Imbizo Government platforms give Members of the Executive in spheres of government the opportunity to partner with communities to alleviate poverty, provide service delivery and also grow the economy.

This platform has also created an employment opportunity for Martha Buna, who had never worked before in her entire life. Buna is part of 21 women who have been given temporary employment opportunities and are now able to provide for their children.
