Senior traffic official arrested in connection with an illicit licensing scheme

Members from the Hawks Anticorruption unit have arrested a 47 year old suspect on Wednesday morning in De Aar linked to the illicit licensing scheme which resulted in the arrest of Elton Abrahams, 33, and the seizure of approximately R3.7 million in cash earlier this month.

The arrest follow multifaceted investigations into the alleged illegal licensing scheme which focused on processing roadworthy certificates particularly for big trucks and busses.

He is expected to appear in the Bellville Magistrate’s Court on Friday alongside Abrahams to face charges involving fraud and corruption.

Investigations continues and the scope affects several provinces, more arrests are expected.
