Gender Equality holds public investigative hearings into gender transformation at Institutions of Higher Learning in SA, 19 Jan

On the 19th January 2017, as part of its Constitutional mandate, the Commission for Gender Equality (CGE) will be holding public investigative hearings into gender transformation at Institutions of Higher Learning in South Africa with the University of KwaZulu-Natal.

This hearing is as result of the University of KwaZulu-Natal being issued with new notice to appear following the non-appearance of its Vice-Chancellor on the hearings hosted by the CGE on the 01st December 2016.  The Commission is embarking on these hearings to ascertain the extent of progress made and the challenges faced by institutions of higher learning in promoting gender transformation.

In particular, the investigation will probe current internal policies, systems, programmes and relevant strategies put in place by the University of KwaZulu-Natal to ensure effective gender transformation, including the challenges faced in achieving the transformation goal(s).

It is anticipated that this hearing and the ones held in December 2016 will enable the Commission to obtain a better understanding of the internal policies, programmes and strategies put in place by these institutions to promote and advance gender transformation.
