Gauteng Roads and Transport on temporary road closure of D603 near Tolwane Bridge

Temporary closure of D603 Road near Tolwane Bridge in Mabopane

The Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport hereby notifies motorists that D603 Road near Tolwane Bridge in Mabopane will be temporary closed from 19 June 2017 until March 2018.

This is due to major construction work that will be undertaken to restore the bridge after it was damaged in 2014 due to heavy storms and flooding.

The temporary bridge that was constructed to facilitate mobility will now be replaced by an expanded bridge across the river. Furthermore, D603 Road will be upgraded to a single carriageway surfaced road.

MEC Ismail Vadi said that the road closure was in the interest of road safety and maintaining a good road infrastructure in the province, adding that upon completion, the bridge is envisioned to shorten travel time for local commuters.

“The bridge forms an important link between communities in the area and should be fixed by early next year. Motorists using this road are advised to take alternative routes during the construction period,” said Vadi.

The department apologises for the inconvenience caused to motorists and commuters.
