Gauteng mourns death of Mduduzi “Mandoza” Tshabalala

The Gauteng Provincial Government has received with shock, the sad news of the passing of one of our kwaito stars and music legend, Mduduzi ‘Mandoza’ Tshabalala early Sunday morning after a battle with cancer since last year.

“We are heartbroken at the loss of such tremendous talent who truly left an imprint on the South African entertainment industry” says MEC for sport, arts, culture and recreation Ms Faith Mazibuko. “Mandoza was truly one of a kind talent whose unique voice and original style made him an icon who will be forever remembered for taking the Kwaito genre to dizzying heights” she continues.

Mandoza’s music broke racial barriers, with his signature hit “Nkalakatha”, becoming a massive crossover anthem which to this day continues to unite South Africans from all walks of life in times of celebrations.

His career accolades, including blockbuster sales, numerous awards and record breaking achievements are a testament to the millions of lives he touched with his passion for music which took him from Soweto to international stardom.

“I would like to convey our deepest condolences to the Tshabalala family, friends and to all of the fans across the country. May we all garner strength from our shared love of this legend. While our creative industry sector has lost a Kwaito king, may his legacy and catalog of timeless classics continue to unite all South Africans and inspire a future groundbreaking music.” the MEC concludes.
