Gauteng Legislature donates sanitary towels to schools during 16 Days of Activism, 1 Dec

GPL continues donating sanitary towels to schools during 16 Days of Activism Campaign

As the campaigner to public participation and a voice for the people of the province, the Gauteng Provincial Legislature (GPL) has also joined the global call; 16 Days of Activism Campaign under the GPL theme, Count me in: Following up on our commitments to ensure a non-violent and a caring Province. As part of the campaign, GPL will be embarking on an initiative to distribute sanitary towels to Faranani Primary School; Tiisetso Primary School; and Ematsheni Primary School on Thursday, 1December 2016.

The initiative is a continuation of the sanitary towel distribution GPL embarked on in August as part of activities for Women’s Month, targeting learners at Tiisetso Primary School and Ematsheni Primary School. GPL is touched by the plight of young girls that cannot afford adequate sanitary protection; and decided to go back to the schools for this initiative to ensure a sustainable impact on the learners. Through the donation of these sanitary towels, GPL will make a positive impact on the education of girl learners from these schools and restore their confidence and dignity. The Gauteng Provincial Legislature (GPL) launched its 16 Days of Activism Campaign with a “Shayimpempe” Door to Door programme in the Poortije community in the City of Johannesburg on Thursday 24 November 2016.
