Gauteng hosts Gauteng Urban Safety and Rescue Services International Standards Classification closing ceremony, 23 Feb

MEC for departments Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA) and Human Settlements, Mr Paul Mashatile, together with the CoGTA Head of department Mr Nhlakanipho Nkontwana and the Head of the Provincial Disaster Management Centre (PDMC), Dr Elias Sithole will hand over certificates during a ceremony to honour the successful completion of the international classification exercises by members of the Gauteng Search and Rescue teams.

Following a 3-day long series of vigorous and intense exercises and simulations under the watchful eyes of an international delegation of experts, the members of the Gauteng Urban and Rescue services will complete their qualifying tests by later tonight.

The aim of Gauteng USAR Team SA to undergo the International External Classification (IEC) process is to achieve a classification status that will enable the team to be internationally recognized as having skills and equipment to respond to any disaster both locally, nationally and internationally.
