Gauteng Health recruits more employees

Gauteng Health recruits more than eight thousand officials

In a bid to improve the quality of service delivery in the province, the Gauteng Department of Health has from January to October 2016 recruited a total number of 8 371 employees.

Of these employees, verification of qualification was not done for about 656 professionals on community service, because this is the last leg of training to enable a health professional to be registered with the relevant statutory body such as the Health Professional Council of South Africa (HPCSA) and the South African Nursing Council (SANC) and Pharmacy Council.

On completion of Community Service, the official receives a certificate registered with HPCSA to practice.

A further 832 Health Professionals and Administration Internship officials’ verification will be conducted after completion of the community service period by statutory bodies.

In terms of administrative internship only those that will be appointed permanently by the department will be verified upon completion of internship.

About 1126 Student nurses, technologists and therapists and 292 on learnership are also not verified yet as they are still undergoing training.

About 3991 health professionals were all verified through relevant statutory councils including the HPCSA, SANC and Pharmacy Council.

The process of verification of qualifications is ongoing and the cost effective systems and processes including work experience, financial and criminal background checks, human resource verification qualifications with South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) have been put in place since the previous financial year.
