Transport Minister takes festive season campaign to North West
The Minister of Transport, Ms Dipuo Peters will embark on road safety activations and law enforcement operations in Potchefstroom in the North West Province on Thursday, 15 December 2016.
The Road Safety Education and Awareness activations are part of the Department of Transport’s festive season road safety campaign.
The objective of the activations is to:
- Instill Road Safety ethics in all road users
- Interact with road users on a one-on-one basis
- Develop and encourage good road user attitudes and behavior
- Develop and maintain responsible road users across the country
The vision of the Road Safety Awareness and Education activations is to make an everlasting impact on all road users by appealing to their conscience to obey road rules and become responsible road users.
Later on the day, Minister Peters in collaboration with Engen Petroleum and Youth in Road Safety will join the #Ridewise campaign at the Engen Garage in Potchefstroom.
The initiative is aimed at increasing awareness around the dangers of texting and driving, driver fatigue and speeding.
On board to communicate driver safety messages to young South African drivers between the ages of 18-34 are well known SA celebrities such as Dr Malinga who will entertain motorists at Engen service stations and some of the cast members from Skeem Saam.
The North West MEC for Transport Management and Community Safety, Dr Mpho Motlhabane, Mayor of Ventersdorp/Tlokwe Local Municipality Mr Kgotso Khumalo and law enforcement authorities will join Minister Peters during the road safety drive.
