Eastern Cape Legislature embarks on school visits programme, 11 to 20 Jan

EC Legislature Education portfolio committee to asses schools readiness in the province

The Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature Portfolio Committee on Education will this week embark on a schools visit programme. All Members of the Provincial Legislature (MPLs) headed by Education Portfolio Committee Chairperson, Fundile Gade, will be deployed throughout the province.

The programme is conducted annually, and is set to start on Wednesday, 11 January to Friday, 20 January 2017. The purpose of the visits is to assess the schools’ readiness and assess challenges facing the schools in the 2017 academic year.

The Committee is geared to engage relevant stakeholders in all Districts and Metro municipalities around the Province as part of the Legislatures’ oversight role over the executive arm of government. The Committee will facilitate findings and recommendations for tabling before the House following these visits.

The Department of Education will brief the Committee on the implementation of 2016 academic year’s House Resolutions and the state of readiness for the current academic year. The briefing will take place tomorrow, at the Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature Chamber from 10h00.

Members of the media are invited to accompany the eight teams comprised of MPL’s to cover these visits.
