Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa to address the 11th Annual Symposium of the Electoral Institute for Sustainable Democracy in Africa (EISA), Rosebank, Johannesburg

Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa will tomorrow, Thursday 20 October 2016, deliver the keynote address at the11th Annual Symposium of the Electoral Institute for Sustainable Democracy in Africa (EISA) at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Rosebank, Johannesburg.

EISA was established in 1996 in Johannesburg with the objective of contributing to the task of building a continent founded on principles of  democratic governance, human rights, peace and citizen participation in Africa. The 11th Annual Symposium also marks the celebration of the 20 year anniversary of EISA.

The theme of the Anniversary is: "Current democratic realities in Africa: Where are we headed beyond the vote?”

The overarching objective of the 20th Anniversary symposium is to review the current state of democracy in Africa by taking stock of progress and challenges confronting the continent in its trajectory of democratic consolidation.

The Symposium will be attended by representatives of international NGOs, election management bodies, civil society organisations, aid agencies, representatives of the African Union, Regional Economic Communities (RECs), representatives of political parties, members of Parliament, and the academia.  A panel of former African Heads of State and Government will also address the symposium.
