Deputy Minister Maggie Sotyu leads SAPS Imbizo Community Outreach programme, 24 Apr

Deputy Minister Maggie Sotyu holds and leads SAPS Imbizo Community Outreach Programme Against Xenophobia Attacks on Foreign Nationals

The Deputy Minister of Police, Ms Makhotso Magdeline Sotyu, will hold and lead the South African Police Service (SAPS) Law Enforcement Imbizo Against Xenophobia in Alexandra Township on Friday, 24 April 2015. The Premier of Gauteng, Mr David Makhura, MEC for Community Safety, Ms Sizakele Nkosi-Malobane, the National Commissioner of Police, General Phiyega, and other public representatives will also attend the SAPS Imbizo.

The Ministry of Police, as part of Government, is in active operational support to the President of the Republic of South Africa, His Excellency Jacob Zuma, who is the country's leader of the stakeholder outreach programme against xenophobia across the nine provinces. In this instance, the Ministry of Police, its Department of Police, and the Provincial Government of Gauteng, will engage with both locals and foreign nationals of Alexandra Township on many issues, including Government's recent approach to Joint Operations by South African Police Service (SAPS) and South African National Defence Force (SANDF); the sting operations; and the re-integration of displaced foreign nationals back to their communities.

"South Africans are called to support all initiatives of anti-xenophobia; we must show solidarity with our fellow displaced Africans, whose lives have been so damaged in the xenophobic violence; and that has also torn families apart. We must build caring and sharing communities, which are stable, safe, welcoming, and most of all, law-abiding," says the Deputy Minister of Police.

The details of the Imbizo are as follows:
