Correctional Services commemorates 16 Days of Activism of No Violence Against Women and Children, 26 Nov

As part of consolidating efforts to elevate the voices of women, children and the disabled affected by crime, the Department of Correctional Services (DCS) will commemorate 16 Days of Activism of No Violence Against Women and Children on Thursday, 26 November 2015, in Thohoyandou in Limpopo.

DCS will address issues related to gender-based violence from a victim and perpetrator’s perspective, under the theme: “Count me in: together moving a non-violent South Africa forward”. As part of an integrated approach, inclusive of both offenders and officials, the event will also include the commemoration of World Aids Day and International Day of Persons with Disabilities.

Focus areas will entail inmates and officials discussing adherence to HIV/AIDS as well as TB treatment, and the challenges experienced by persons with disabilities in accessing services and programmes.

The department’s intervention programmes and projects are also geared towards enhancing offender development, as well as rehabilitation of offenders convicted for committing crimes of violence.
