Eastern Cape conducts safety awareness campaign for blind community in Dimbaza, 1 Mar

EC MEC’s to raise awareness for the blind community in Dimbaza

Eastern Cape MEC’s will visit the Dimbaza community to conduct safety awareness for the blind community on Wednesday, 1 March 2017.

The blind community has expressed safety concerns in the area. Some of the blind community members were hit by cars and died in the past year.

The awareness will target commuters, vehicle drivers in and around Dimbaza. The Provincial Department of Human Settlements has just completed building of houses for the 27 blind families in the area.

MEC’s Helen Sauls-August (Human Settlements), Weziwe Tikana (Transport, Safety and Liaison) and Mlibo Qhoboshiyana (Rural Development and Agrarian Reform) will attend the campaign. The month of March is dedicated to Human Rights and this awareness campaign falls within the spirit of Human Rights for the disabled community.

During the campaign, a project visit to check progress on water and sanitation connection of the completed house will be done.
