Basic Education launches Teacher Appreciation and Support Programme, 31 Aug

Basic Education Minister to launch Teacher Appreciation and Support Programme

The Minister of Basic Education, Mrs Angie Motshekga will on Monday 31 August 2015 address the 1st Annual Teachers Indaba. The Indaba will conclude with the launch of the Teacher Appreciation and Support Programme (TASP). The year-long celebrations will be launched in a “Teachers’ Indaba” under the theme: "Teachers, the Heartbeat of the Nation: A Programme for Teachers”.

From 2015 onward the recognition of teachers will be wider, holistic, and yearlong and includes areas that affect teachers as people and professionals.

The programme hopes to achieve improved teachers’ morale which will lead to greater commitment to the school’s overall healthy environment. It is also hoped that this Programme will help attract qualified teachers and to positively affect productivity and efficiency amongst the other objectives.

In celebrating the teachers for their important role of shaping the minds and futures of South Africa’s past, present and future generations, TASP will focus on celebrating teachers every day culminating in a seminar at the end of October, the month in which we celebrate World Teachers Day.
