Department of Social Development to launch "Ke moja" ambassadors campaign
22 July 2008
The Department of Social Development, in partnership with Central Drug Authority (CDA), United Nation Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), is to launch "Ke moja" ambassadors. "Ke moja ambassadors" is a communication concept for dialogue with and between young people. The aim is to work with young people who are in and out of school, cultural, sports, religion and other relevant arenas where young people meet. The goal is to combat the spread of substance abuse and myths.
The ambassadors have been selected as high profile celebrities who have careers in music, sports and art. The selection was made based on their social status and their ability to interact with their fans (predominantly young people). They will also participate during the "Ke moja" road shows in provinces.
The Deputy President of South Africa, Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, and the Deputy Minister of Social Development, Jean Swanson-Jacobs, will address the gathering.
Other departments that are part of the initiative are the departments of health, sport and recreation, and ,arts and culture.
