About renewing registration of sterilising plant

You must apply to renew your sterilising plant registration every three years. You must submit your application to the Registrar of Act 36 of 1947 before 31 March of the year in which your registration cycle lapses.

You must contact your provincial department of Agriculture to get a state veterinary official in your area to supervise your sterilising plant. The veterinary official will give you a veterinary inspection certificate which you must attach to your application. The veterinary inspection certificate must verify that your plant:

  • complies with hygiene requirements
  • management complies with the requirements of the sterilising plant regulation
  • has good storage facilities
  • processed animal products are free from pathogenic organisms.

Should you fail to renew your sterilising plant registration on or before the 31st of March of the last year which your registration cycle lapses, the Registrar of Act 36 of 1947 will cancel your first registration and your certificate will be invalid.
