About transferring an animal identification mark
An animal identification mark can be transferred from one livestock owner to another. To do so, the new owner must apply for the transfer of an animal identification mark at the Department of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development.
In the case of the death of the legal owner, the identification mark can be transferred to you if the executor of the estate gives permission for the mark to be transferred. When there is no executor, the new owner can provide a copy of the death certificate as well as a Letter of Authority issued by the High Court stating that the you are the legal owner of the animals.
What you should do
- Download or obtain the Application for transfer of registration of an identification mark form from extension officers, magistrate offices, stock theft units of the South African Police Service or from the Registrar: Animal Identification in Pretoria.
- Part 2 of the form must be completed by you or (in the case of death) by the executor of the estate. If there is no executor, a copy of the death certificate and “Letters of Authority” should be attached.
- Pay the prescribed fee to the Department of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development at:
