The SANDF Armed Forces Day Parade and celebrations

The Commander-in-Chief, President Jacob Zuma, has decided that the day of the sinking of the SS Mendi will be commemorated annually as Armed Forces Day. This is the day that the entire nation is expected to pause and pay tribute to all members in uniform who have taken it upon themselves to serve the people of South Africa and defend the Constitution of the country, with their lives.

In accordance with this proclamation the C SANDF decided that in 2012, as the first year of the newly established Armed Forces Day, the event would be held as follows:

Venue: Atteridgeville Pretoria
Date: Tuesday 21, February 2012

The programme for the day will be as follows:

A Wreath Laying Ceremony by the Commander-in-Chief of the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) at the SS Mendi Memorial at the Gamothakga Resort. SANDF Armed Forces Day Parade in the form of an amended Brigade-in-Review Parade at the Atteridgeville Stadium. An SANDF Armed Forces Day Celebration programme will also be held at the Atteridgeville Stadium.
