Youth Development Agency launches Education Enablers Fund, 30 Jan

National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) Chief Executive Officer, Khathu Ramukumba will on Friday 30 January 2015 launch the Education Enablers Fund in East London in the Eastern Cape. The CEO Education Enablers Fund established in October 2014 has been initiated to provide basic necessities to poor and vulnerable learners.

Many children in South Africa continue to face daily struggles caused by the effects of poverty, HIV/AIDS and high unemployment levels. Scores of children are still unable to attend school because of a lack of basic day to day school necessities.

“The NYDA believes that walking to school barefoot, with an empty school bag is not how young scholars should be ushered into the future. With Education lives can be improved, the poverty cycle can be broken and people can lead sustainable livelihoods,” says Ramukumba.

The Fund will identify and help young scholars, of rural based schools, who are in need of basic day to day necessities required to attend school such as school uniforms/shoes, writing material and book bags.

The first phase of the fund will be implemented in Kwa-Zulu-Natal, Limpopo and in the Eastern Cape, to rural based schools, which are classified by the Department of basic education as under resourced.

During the launch, NYDA CEO will be joined by Eastern Cape Premier Phumulo Masualle.

Members of the media are invited to the launch as follows:
Date: 30 January 2015
Time: 10h30 to 13h00
Venue: Umzuvukile High School, Mooiplaas (East London)
